The Young Progressives Party has urged President Bola Tinubu and the nation’s security agencies to adopt the strategy that led to the rescue of abducted pupils and teachers in Oriire, Oyo State, across other parts of the country.
The opposition party insists that decisive security action, rather than ransom negotiations, remains the most effective response to terrorism and kidnapping.
It made the call on Friday while reacting to the rescue of the victims abducted from three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after 56 days in captivity.
In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Wale Egbeola-Martins, the YPP commended the security agencies for what it described as a coordinated operation that secured the victims’ freedom and dealt a blow to the kidnappers.
“The Young Progressives Party warmly welcomes the successful rescue of the 57 pupils, teachers and other victims abducted in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. We commend the gallantry, professionalism and coordination displayed by the security agencies whose operation led to the safe release of all the abductees and the neutralisation of terrorists involved in the heinous crime,” the statement read in part.
