Cape Town residents can now purchase digital vouchers to donate to people experiencing homelessness as an alternative to giving cash.
The Mi-change voucher system, implemented by local non-profit organisations U-turn Homeless Ministries and Mould Empower Serve (MES), allows the public to buy a R15 voucher by scanning a SnapScan QR code linked to a registered participant.
Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis expressed support for the cashless system, encouraging residents to donate digitally. "Mi-change is exactly the kind of innovative solution our city needs," Hill-Lewis said.
"Every digital voucher represents a step forward, and every person donating becomes part of that rebuilding."
