Cape Town residents have been urged to renew their social assistance applications, with R8.3 billion in support available for qualifying pensioners and indigent residents.

Mayco Member for Finance, Councillor Siseko Mbandezi, said the Metro has proposed more than R8.3 billion in social assistance to qualifying pensioners and indigent residents for the 2026/27 financial year.

“We encourage those who have previously received help to reapply without delay and we also welcome new applications as soon as possible,” Mbandezi said.

This comes after the Metro earlier this week gave an update on the processing of pensioner and indigent benefit applications.
