The Samoa Conservation Society has become the 125th partner of BirdLife International, a move expected to strengthen conservation efforts in Samoa, including work to protect the country's critically endangered national bird, the Manumea.
Society President Tupuola Savave Sapolu said the formal partnership was the result of years of collaboration between the two organisations.
"It is the culmination of a relationship that has been built over a number of years of successful collaboration," Tupuola said. "It is my sincere hope that this partnership will continue to add value to both organisations for years to come."
Former Samoa Conservation Society president Afia James Atherton said the agreement comes at an important time as the organisation seeks to strengthen long-term relationships with conservation partners and donors.
Responding to questions from the Samoa Observer, Atherton said BirdLife International had already provided financial and technical support for the society's Manumea research through its existing collaboration.
