Ukraine's Parliamentary Commissioner for Human Rights, Dmytro Lubinets, has called on European partners to continue supporting Ukrainians who fled the country because of Russia's war, while stressing that safe return will only be possible once proper conditions are established in Ukraine.
He made the statement during the international conference "Democracy in Decline or in Crisis?" in Greece, Ukrinform reported, citing his Telegram channel.
"I called on European partners to continue supporting Ukrainians. At the same time, another important issue remains: creating conditions for Ukrainians to return home safely. This requires housing, economic development, job creation in Ukraine, and accelerated integration into the EU," he wrote.
According to Lubinets, more than 8.6 million Ukrainians are currently living abroad, including 6.2 million in the European Union, citing data from Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He added that nearly 5.7 million people were forced to flee their homes because of Russia's full-scale invasion, according to the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR).
