To develop its own anti-ballistic missile system as quickly as possible, Ukraine needs the support of its European partners, which is why eight countries may join the “Freyja” project.
According to a Ukrinform correspondent, President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement during a conversation with journalists.
“We are taking the lead in the ‘Freyja’ project. Why is this our leadership? Because the missile is Ukrainian-made, but this system requires not only the missile and the launcher, but also radars, control systems, and many other components. To build our anti-ballistic system very quickly, we need European partners who can manufacture the components that Ukraine does not yet have for its anti-ballistic system. Therefore, to speed up the process, we have developed a project called “Freyja.” We understand that there are eight countries that can help us build our system, which will then benefit both Ukraine and all of Europe. I am very hopeful that this project will be a success. “Of course, if our partners support us in the coming days and weeks—if that happens—it will be a huge help and a major breakthrough for Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex,” he said.
The president noted that ballistic missiles pose a threat to the entire world, while there is a critical shortage of anti-ballistic systems and missiles. According to him, the Patriot system remains the most effective, having proven its effectiveness during the war in Ukraine, for which he expressed gratitude to the U.S. and European partners who are assisting with its delivery.
