Some Red and White Cooperatives are built in strange locations, despite a hefty daily net profit target of Rp 2.74 million (US$152) for one of President Prabowo's ambitious lighthouse projects.

A Red and White Cooperative is seen nestled on July 6, 2026, just below the top of a mountain at the Stone Garden tourism site and conservation area in Gunungmasigit village, Cipatat district in West Bandung regency, West Java. The KDMP location is one of the strangest locations for one of President Prabowo Subianto's ambitious lighthouse projects, despite a hefty daily net profit target of Rp 2.74 million (US$152) (kompas.com/Bagus Puji Panuntun)

Location is king, this is a belief strongly held by people in property and retail businesses. For retailers, a good location can increase footfall and offer convenience for customers. But location is probably the least consideration when the government is building red and white cooperatives across the country. There have been social media posts showing that there are many have been built in areas where footfall is negligible, if any, such as on top of the mountain, in the middle of a jungle, next to a cemetery on the edge of a village, facing rice fields or nestled on hill slopes.
