The identity of one of the Baloch fishermen killed during the early Wednesday morning airstrikes conducted by the U.S. military on the port of Sirik has been confirmed.
The Balochistan Human Rights Documentation Network identified the victim as Omid Arabi, approximately 26 years old and a resident of Bandar-e Kohastak in Sirik County.
Local sources reported that the U.S. military strikes on the port of Sirik left many Baloch fishermen dead and injured. Additionally, several fishing boats, or lenjes, were directly targeted, causing severe financial damage to fishing equipment and local civilian property.
Another fisherman from Minab County was also killed in the attack, though his identity had not been officially verified at the time of this report.
In the early hours of Wednesday, July 8, the U.S. military launched a coordinated series of airstrikes targeting sites in Bandar Abbas, Qeshm Island, and Sirik. United States Central Command (CENTCOM) announced that the operations were carried out in retaliation for recent attacks attributed to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
