A nighttime U.S. airstrike targeting the Army’s 388th Brigade barracks in Bampur, Sistan and Baluchestan Province, left dozens of casualties, though the exact toll remains unverified due to conflicting reports.
The Iranian Army issued an official statement confirming seven fatalities following the attack, which occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, July 15. According to the military, 13 missiles struck the garrison, directly hitting the barracks’ dormitory, guest house and guard posts. The statement identified the victims as a mix of cadre personnel and conscript soldiers.
However, other domestic state sources reported a higher toll, stating that at least 10 people were killed and more than 15 injured. They noted that many of the wounded were soldiers who were inside the dormitory at the time of the strike.
Local sources in Iranshahr painted a far more severe picture, estimating that at least 50 people were injured. In response to the influx of casualties, the Iranshahr Blood Transfusion Centre issued an emergency appeal urging Bampur residents to donate blood immediately.
The Baloch rights media outlet Haal Vsh reported that at least 50 wounded individuals were transferred to medical centres, including Khatam al-Anbia Hospital in Iranshahr. The outlet stated that at least two of the wounded died after being admitted and that seven others remained in critical condition. Local sources cited by Haal Vsh suggested that the actual death toll inside the barracks could be dozens higher, though strict security cordons and a lack of independent access to the site have prevented verification of these figures.
