Emile Koopman died in a horror crash involving a taxi in Mitchells Plain.

The driver of the Ford Figo that went up in flames after a speeding taxi crashed into him in Mitchells Plain has been identified as Emile Koopman.

Koopman, 39, was standing at a red robot at the intersection of Highlands Drive and Weltevrede Park Way in Colorado Park when the taxi rammed into him on Tuesday afternoon. Instantaneously his vehicle went up in flames leaving bystanders unable to rescue him.

The incident left his family shattered. Koopman's mother-in-law, Zelda Stanley, said: “Emile is married to my daughter; he has a seven-year-old daughter. He was a driver and still busy working at the time of the accident.
