It is ironic that the political elite of Northern Nigeria, the region whose citizens are mainly responsible for the terrorism that could engulf the entire Nigeria, is not accepting responsibility for this scourge that is so obvious.
As the sitting Governor of Katsina State, Bello Masari, observed, whereas Northern Nigerians were mostly the top military brass of former President Muhammadu Buhari’s government, the predators and the victims were also Northerners, or from the Sahel.
Prof. Yusuf Usman, a buddy of Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, who appears to be an apologist for terrorists, also observed that, though President Bola Tinubu is currently the Commander-in-Chief of Nigeria’s Armed Forces, the National Security Adviser, the two Ministers of Defence, and many other senior security chiefs are Northerners.
He, therefore, suggested that the Northern elite must also accept responsibility for ending the insecurity, even as it must be acknowledged that the buck stops on the table of the Commander-in-Chief, and all security chiefs, regardless of their region.
When Obafemi Awolowo, the first Premier of Western Nigeria, pointed out that the children that Northern Nigeria failed to educate would turn around to torment their children, he was rebuffed. Now the menace has been unleashed on the whole of Nigeria.
