ANC Chief Whip in the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature Super Zuma shares a light-hearted moment with Ukhozi FM Sigiya Ngengoma presenter Nonhlanhla "Mdonso" Ngcobo and the late Dr Ntuthuko Mahlaba after the two ANC leaders went head-to-head with their Maskandi song selections on the popular radio show. Dr Mahlaba tragically died on Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while jogging in Newcastle.

There are moments in the life of a people when language becomes inadequate; when words are simply too small to carry the weight of grief. This is one of those moments.

I write these words with a heavy heart, struggling to comprehend how a life so full of purpose, so rich in humility and so deeply devoted to the service of others could be taken from us so suddenly. On Saturday, July 4, 2026, the African National Congress, the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and the people of our province lost not only a distinguished public representative, but a humble servant whose entire life reflected the finest traditions of selfless leadership.

His passing came barely a day after he had successfully led one of the Legislature’s flagship oversight programmes in Newcastle, bringing together all political parties represented in the House to engage communities, assess service delivery and monitor strategic development projects.
