Wizz Air has expanded its operations in Bulgaria by basing an eighth aircraft at its Sofia hub, a move the airline says underlines its long-term commitment to the Bulgarian market. The arrival of the new Airbus A321neo was marked together with Sofia Airport and coincides with the launch of two new direct routes from the capital to Budapest, Hungary, and Rhodes, Greece. Tickets for both destinations are already available through the airline's website and mobile app, with one-way fares starting at 14.99 euros for Budapest and 24.99 euros for Rhodes.
The newly based aircraft brings Wizz Air's total fleet stationed in Bulgaria to 11 aircraft. According to the airline, the investment will generate around 40 direct jobs and another 350 indirect positions in Sofia while also supporting inbound tourism and contributing to the local economy through improved air connectivity.
Budapest, often referred to as the "Pearl of the Danube," is one of Central Europe's best-known capitals, celebrated for its historic architecture and cultural landmarks. Visitors are drawn to attractions such as the Hungarian Parliament, the Fisherman's Bastion overlooking the city, and the poignant "Shoes on the Danube Bank" memorial. The new route is expected to appeal to travelers seeking short city breaks.
