Valar Atomics powered an AI chip with atomic energy. According to the company, it is the first of the atomic startups to have produced electricity.

Valar Atomics has demonstrated the functionality of its reactor, designated Ward 250. An Nvidia Blackwell chip was powered by the electricity. "This is the first meeting of advanced nuclear and AI; two technologies which will transform the next century," Valar Atomics wrote in a LinkedIn post.

In addition, Valar Atomics has announced a partnership with Nvidia: both intend to work together on AI systems powered by atomic energy. This is only possible through the combination of two systems that do not require water, Valar Atomics wrote: "Waterless power generation and waterless AI cooling."

Valar relies on a high-temperature reactor

Ward 250 is a High-Temperature Gas-Cooled Reactor (HTGR) powered by Tristructural-Isotropic fuel (TRISO). This consists of small pellets containing highly assay low-enriched uranium (HALEU). The reactor operates at a temperature of 750 degrees Celsius and is cooled by helium gas.
