Start-up Valar says small nuclear reactors can be used with closed-loop cooling systems to reduce data centre power, water needs
Nuclear power start-up Valar Atomics said it is developing a small data centre in Utah intended to demonstrate how reactor-powered facilities can use less water.
California-based Valar announced the project at the Utah site of its microreactor, and ran a demonstration in which the reactor powered Nvidia’s Blackwell GPU.
The companies said the demonstration marks the first time a small reactor has been used to power a data centre.
