A married woman, who was allegedly abducted by her family members on Saturday evening near Maravanur on the Tiruchi-Dindigul national highway in Manapparai police station limits was rescued by a police team which arrested three persons, including her elder brother, in connection with the crime. Two cars, which were allegedly used to abduct the woman — identified as M. Chithirivalli, 27, of Mudukupatti — have been confiscated. Ms. Chithiravalli married Ajith Kumar, 27, of Sithanatham and from another caste at a temple in Vayalur near Tiruchi last month.The marriage was opposed by Ms. Chithiravalli’s parents following which both sides approached the Manapparai All Women Police Station. After enquiry, Ms. Chithiravalli was sent along with Mr. Ajith Kumar and his parents. Subsequently, relations soured between Mr. Ajith Kumar and Murugesan, husband of Ms. Chithiravalli’s sister.Mr. Murugesan lodged a complaint against Mr. Ajith Kumar with the Manapparai police. The two were asked to appear at the police station for inquiry. Sources said Mr. Ajith Kumar, his mother, and Ms. Chithirvalli turned up for inquiry on Saturday and submitted a petition while the other side did not turn up.Mr. Ajith Kumar with his wife and mother was returning from the police station in an autorickshaw when the accused came in two cars and allegedly abducted Ms. Chithiravalli. Acting swiftly on information, a police team rescued Ms. Chithiravalli and arrested three members of her family. The names of the arrested were given as Malaisamy, elder brother of Chithiraivalli, Murugesan, and his relative Prakash. The Manapparai Police have registered a case.
