A six-month-old baby girl, abducted by a woman from the Integrated Panjapur Bus Terminus in Tiruchi on Saturday afternoon, was rescued by police in Mayiladuthurai on Sunday. Four suspects have been secured in connection with the case.Police said S. Gajalakshmi, 28, of Andal Street in Tiruchi, had been living on the streets since childhood. Her husband, Silambarasan, a native of Pudukkottai, works as a driver and visits Tiruchi occasionally due to work commitments.According to the police, Mr. Silambarasan had come to the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital in Tiruchi on Saturday for treatment. Ms. Gajalakshmi went there with their six-month-old daughter to meet him. A woman aged around 40 befriended Ms. Gajalakshmi and promised her a job, food, accommodation, and money. The woman reportedly bought tea for her and persuaded her to accompany her.The police said Gajalakshmi, along with her child and the woman, later travelled by bus to the Panjapur terminus. After providing food to Ms. Gajalakshmi at a hotel near the terminus, the woman allegedly fled with the infant when Ms. Gajalakshmi went to the restroom.Ms. Gajalakshmi lodged a complaint with the E. Pudur police station.Based on the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation using CCTV footage from the bus terminus to identify the suspect. Acting on leads, police traced and rescued the infant in Mayiladuthurai on Sunday. Four persons have been secured and are being questioned in connection with the abduction.
