In a swift action, the Karaikudi police rescued a 45-day-old new born girl baby after the child’s mother complained that three women forcibly taken away the infant after giving her money.Police said that Lakshmi and Palani kumar were married. He was working as a daily wage earner. The couple had three girl children. On May 21, Lakshmi delivered a girl baby at the Karaikudi Government Hospital. It is said that a woman approached Lakshmi to part with the new born baby and in turn promised ₹3 lakh.She claimed to have refused to the proposal of the woman. A fortnight ago, a couple from Chennai had visited Lakshmi’s residence and requested her to part with the baby. Two days ago, three women came to her house and reportedly gave some money and took away the child from Lakshmi.She complained to the police to rescue her child.ASP Ashish Puniya said that the police, on receipt of the complaint, rescued the baby safely. Discreet probe showed that there was a bargain between the two sides. It is said that Lakshmi demanded ₹5 lakh, while the three women offered ₹3 lakh. “We will take action as per the law on both sides....” he said.Legal ways of adoption are available and using force or money would be punishable, the police said and added that further investigation was on.
