A 46-year-old man from Sivarakottai was arrested for allegedly outraging the modesty of his sister-in-law by attempting to forcibly tying a thali around her neck in the early hours of Saturday.
The police said that the 26-year-old married woman had left her husband two months back due to differences.
The woman stayed with her elder sister who also lived in the same locality.
However, the accused man had been making sexual advances towards the sister-in-law in the absence of his wife. The victim had remained silent to protect the family’s honour. However, in the small hours of Saturday, the man had tried to overpower the woman with the intention of outraging her modesty.
Based on the woman’s complaint, the man was arrested on Saturday and sent to judicial custody.
