The MGR Nagar police have arrested a 27-year-old man on charges of verbally abusing a woman running a juice shop, before stabbing her brother.

According to the police, the complainant Muthusamy, 33, a resident of Thiruvalluvar Street in MGR Nagar, said that his elder sister runs a juice shop on K.K. Salai, and on the night of April 21, a man identified as Karthik Raja from the same locality visited the shop, bought a glass of juice, but refused to pay for it. He allegedly picked up a quarrel, verbally abused the woman using expletives, smashed glass tumblers in the shop, and left after issuing threats.

A short while later, when Muthusamy visited the shop, the accused returned. He abused Muthusamy and attacked him with a small knife he had concealed. He then fled after issuing death threats. Muthusamy, who was injured in the attack, received treatment at K.K. Nagar Government Hospital, before lodging a complaint.

Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS Act) and the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act (TNPHW Act).

Police arrested the suspect identified as Karthik Raja, of MGR Nagar. A small knife was seized from him.
