A 47-year-old man was arrested for allegedly beating his younger brother to death following a family dispute at a Tamil Nadu Urban Habitat Development Board (TNUHDB) housing colony in Ambattur on Sunday night.The deceased, identified as Velankanni alias Vela, 40, was a daily-wage labourer residing in the TNUHDB colony in Ambattur. According to the police, Vela, who was under the influence of alcohol, arrived at the residence of his elder brother, Yesudas, 47, who lived in the same neighbourhood.The police said Vela allegedly picked a quarrel with his mother, Mahalakshmi, who was staying at Yesudas’s house. Hearing the commotion, Yesudas intervened and asked his younger brother to leave the premises.As the argument intensified, a scuffle broke out between the siblings. During the altercation, Yesudas allegedly assaulted Vela and pushed him to the ground, causing him to lose consciousness.Family members immediately rushed Vela to the Government Hospital in Avadi, where doctors examined him and declared him brought dead.
