The Aryanad police arrested a youth for allegedly assaulting a station house officer (SHO) C. Devarajan with a steel stool, injuring him on the head. The accused has been identified as Yadhukrishnan, 23, of Kulappada in Uzhamalakkal. The accused, a social media content creator, allegedly entered the Aryanad police station premises with a bottle of liquor and vandalised a parked police jeep late on Saturday.Damages estimated at nearly ₹15,000 were reported to the vehicle. The accused is suspected to have been heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident.The SHO, who was at the police quarters, was soon intimated of the incident, following which the accused was located at a nearby hospital. As the police officers attempted to restrain him, the accused ran into a doctor’s cabin. He went on to abuse the officers and attack the SHO using a stool. The officer sustained injuries requiring at least five stitches and is currently undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kattakkada.The accused has been booked under relevant provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) including Sections 109(1) (attempt to murder), 121(2) (voluntarily causing hurt to a public servant to deter them from performing their official duties, 118(1) (voluntarily causing hurt using dangerous weapons or means), and the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act, 1984.
