GOOD Party mayoral candidate Brett Herron says the City of Cape Town's response to the Constitutional Court's Tafelberg judgment reflects a failure to take responsibility for years of delays in delivering affordable housing.
GOOD Party mayoral candidate Brett Herron has accused the City of Cape Town of failing to deliver affordable housing and criticised its response to the Constitutional Court's recent ruling on the long-running Tafelberg School site dispute.
In a statement on Sunday, Herron said the city's response to the judgment demonstrated a lack of accountability and ignored years of delays in addressing spatial inequality.
Herron said the ruling had renewed focus on promises made nearly a decade ago.
He recalled that, in July 2017, while serving as the City of Cape Town's Mayoral Committee member for Transport and Urban Development, he announced the identification of 10 city-owned sites in the inner city, Salt River and Woodstock "to be used for affordable housing".
