Changes are on the way that will lead to the breakdown of the weeklong extreme heat in the central and eastern United States -- at a price.
A cooldown is coming to the Midwest and Northeast, but it will not be as substantial as what has occurred in May and June.
"The transition will be marked by severe weather, including powerful storms with lightning and rounds of torrential rain that can lead to flash flooding, especially from parts of the Midwest to portions of the Northeast," AccuWeather senior meteorologist Brett Anderson said.
