Megan Walsh was sent to prison on Friday night's epsiode of Coronation Street and fans of the long-running ITV soap were quick to praise actress Beth Nixon, who made her TV debut with the controversial part of the disgraced teacher21:03, 03 Jul 2026Updated 21:06, 03 Jul 2026Megan Walsh was sent to prison in Friday night's episode of Coronation Street. The disgraced teacher, who is played by Beth Nixon, has seemingly left the ITV soap for good following a controversial storyline in which she had groomed student Will Driscoll into a sexual relationship.‌The whole thing has been in court this week and, whilst Will initially claimed to the jury that he had made the whole thing up, he decided to own up and tell the truth. Despite Megan being arrogant enough to approach him in the street and claim she would be found innocent, quite the opposite played out as the jury delivered their verdict on the latest instalment of the Manchester-based serial.‌Having been found guilty on the charge of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity while in a position of trust, Megan was sentenced to five years behind bars and instantly lashed out as the Driscoll family cheered, and her mother placed her head in her hands.‌Before being removed from court, Megan continued to protest her innocence. Pointing to Will, she screamed: "No, no, no. You are a liar! In your dreams, I like a real man. I'm innocent, please! He's a liar, he's a fantasist. This is a kangaroo court!" as she continued to lash out.Through tears, she said: "Mum, Mum, please don't... please don't let them take me," but she was taken down and Eva told Will to not even look at his abuser.‌Back at the Rovers, residents who had turned up to their local to order a pint congratulated the Driscolls on their news. Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) quipped: "Five years, eh? I bet her face was tripping, dirty perv!"Will's dad Ben then said: "Well, it's a matter of public record now. Yes, her face was trippin' her. She threw all her toys out of the dock, as Eva added: "The guards had to drag her off kicking and screaming."‌Taking to social media, fans were quick to share their reaction to the end of what has been a long-running storyline. Actress Beth Nixon made her television debut with the role of Megan and fans also praised her performance, with one viewer writing: "What a story that was and what an actress she is. Beth Nixon was absolutely phenomenal throughout!"Another said: "For whatever it’s worth, it SEEMS like this trial is Megan’s swan song. While I will most definitely not miss Megan, I’ll absolutely miss seeing Beth Nixon on my screen. She did a great job portraying such a vile character."‌However, others were quick to praise the way in which an antagonist finally faced justice for their actions, after both Coronation Street and Emmerdale have come under fire lately for simply killing their villains off.One said: "Megan found guilty so Corrie CAN let the victims get justice sometimes…." and another wrote: "It’s so refreshing to see Megan get convicted, instead of them killing her off like other abusers. You can see the relief on Will and his entire family’s faces."Fans recently complained that fellow soap Emmerdale had decided to kill Dr Caitlin Todd off after she sexually abused Charity Dingle, and Corrie also decided to have Sarah Platt murder Theo Silverton instead of having him up in court for the way he had domestically abused Todd Grimshaw.‌At the time, one fan raged: "I just had a feeling that #Emmerdale was gonna kill Dr Todd off and here we are!"Charity deserves justice , unfortunately now it’s not gonna happen And now this storyline has turned into a whodunit! I have no words. Soaps needs to do better instead off killing off the villain! This storyline is so important to raise awareness for and in my opinion they have gone and ruined it for a cheap plot!"Another said: "can soaps stop unaliving the abusers please! todd and charity deserved to get justice. #emmerdale #corrie."Article continues belowCoronation Street airs weeknights at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVLike this story?
