A 70-year-old former official from Varna’s Primorski District has been charged in connection with issuing allegedly falsified construction tolerance certificates in the Baba Alino area, according to the District Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities have placed him in 72-hour detention while a court considers a permanent measure of custody.
Prosecutors say the man, identified by initials V.K., is accused of committing the offenses between May and July 2023 while serving as a municipal employee. During that period, he is alleged to have prepared official documents certifying false information related to buildings in the area.
Investigators claim that the certificates stated that 20 residential buildings of varying sizes had been constructed on three plots of land in Baba Alino before March 31, 2001. This date is considered crucial for determining eligibility for construction tolerance status under Bulgarian regulations.
A supervising prosecutor has already ordered detention and submitted a request to the Varna District Court for the most severe preventive measure. The investigation is being conducted under the oversight of the Varna District Prosecutor’s Office, which says multiple procedural steps have been taken, including searches and seizures at municipal offices and private properties, as well as witness interviews.
