Employment in Greece’s private sector increased in May 2026, with net job creation reaching 132,730 positions, according to data from the ERGANI labor market information system.

Hiring announcements totaled 368,429 during the month, while departures stood at 235,699. Of the total separations, 96,616 were voluntary resignations and 139,083 resulted from dismissals or the expiration of fixed-term employment contracts.

For the January-May 2026 period, total hiring reached 1,361,618 positions, while departures amounted to 1,028,775. Of those departures, 612,212 were dismissals or the expiration of fixed-term contracts, while 416,563 were voluntary resignations.

As a result, net private-sector employment creation in the first five months of 2026 stood at 332,843 jobs, the highest January-May performance recorded since 2001, according to official data. [AMNA]
