He further alleged that the Deputy Chief Registrar displayed “obvious anger” after he insisted that the rules announced at the beginning of the mediation be applied equally to all parties.

A self-represented litigant in an appeal involving the University of Ibadan has accused the Deputy Chief Registrar of the Court of Appeal, Mrs. Maryam Belgore Ahmed, of “bias,” intimidation and denying him a fair hearing during a mediation session that ended without any resolution.

In a press statement dated July 2, 2026 and made available to SaharaReporters, Kayode Bello, who is representing himself in the appeal marked CA/IB/427/2025, University of Ibadan & 9 Others v. Kayode Bello, levelled a series of allegations against Mrs. Belgore, who chaired the mediation panel.

Bello, invoking Section 39 of the Nigerian Constitution on freedom of expression and the press, said he was making the allegations public because he believed the mediation process was not conducted in an impartial manner.

According to him, one of the major issues during the mediation was that Mrs. Belgore “intermittently” interrupted him while he was presenting his position but allegedly allowed lawyers representing the University of Ibadan, as well as the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Legal Unit), Benedicta O., to speak without similar interruptions.
