The process for appointing a substantive Vice-Chancellor for Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, has come under legal scrutiny following the submission of two separate pre-action notices seeking to halt the exercise over alleged procedural and legal irregularities.

The notices, copies of which were obtained by SaharaReporters, were dated June 24 and June 25, 2026, respectively, and addressed to the Chairman of the University's Governing Council. Both notices challenge the proposed appointment of Prof. Tomola Marshal Obamuyi as the institution's substantive Vice-Chancellor, alleging that the process leading to his selection was flawed and inconsistent with established procedures and legal requirements.

The petitioners, who include a group of concerned stakeholders and a civil society organisation represented by separate law firms, alleged that unresolved issues relating to a 2009 Visitation Panel report, an accompanying Government White Paper, and an alleged conflict of interest in the selection process could undermine the legitimacy of the appointment if allowed to proceed.

In the first pre-action notice dated June 25, Atinuke Fadayomi, Esq., acting on behalf of what she described as "concerned stakeholders committed to the preservation of legality, transparency, institutional integrity, and public confidence in the governance structure" of the university, warned that legal action could be instituted against the institution and relevant authorities if the concerns raised were not addressed.
