RESIDENTS in Phoenix are voicing their anger over community parks and playgrounds being sold under the guise of “low cost” housing to developers named in the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) report.
The report released last year, followed an investigation into maladministration in the affairs of the eThekwini Municipality.
It revealed several irregularities in relation to the sale and purchase of 29 sites including community parks and sport grounds in Phoenix.
The SIU, an anti-corruption forensic investigation and litigation agency, was mandated to establish if the municipality had disposed of or alienated its immovable property through its Human Settlements Infill Housing Programmes (IHP) in a proper manner.
