The physical and psychological condition of Astareh (Maryam) Ansari, an attorney and member of the Fars Bar Association who has been held in temporary detention since May 2, is deeply alarming. Advocates warn that her continued imprisonment poses a grave threat to her health and life.

Human rights lawyer Sina Yousefi reported on his X, formerly Twitter, account that following her arrest, Ansari was transferred to Adelabad Prison in Shiraz. Since her first day of detention, she has been subjected to “Kaf-Khab” conditions, forced to sleep on the floor due to a lack of beds, in a ward housing defendants and convicts of violent crimes, including homicide.

The imprisoned attorney suffers from an autoimmune disease. Despite requiring specialized medical attention, she has been systematically denied adequate access to medical services and her essential medications. According to sources, her physical and mental well-being has severely deteriorated as a result of her ongoing detention and the lack of medical intervention.

Ansari’s temporary detention order, which had previously been extended, is set to expire on July 5. However, there are serious concerns that authorities may extend her detention yet again.
