A court will discuss on Thursday an injunction filed by the Union of Cruise Ship Owners aimed at suspending a 24-hour strike on passenger ferries sailing from the port of Rafina on July 3, by three seafarers’ unions.

The Panhellenic Union of Merchant Mariners (PENEN), which first called the strike, along with seafarers’ unions PEMEN, representing the crew and marine engineers, denounced the move as an attempt to “criminalize their fight,” declaring their determination to protect the strike.

The case will be heard at noon, PENEN said. The strike is expected to disrupt all coastal ferry services departing from Rafina to the Cyclades and the wider Aegean, with companies already announcing forced suspensions and cancellations of routes.

Fast Ferries and Golden Star Ferries suspended all scheduled routes on Friday to destinations such as Andros, Tinos, Mykonos, Paros, Naxos, Ios and Santorini, while calling on passengers to arrange for a ticket change.
