The 20th National Statistics Day was celebrated at Madurai Kamaraj University College on June 29.Organised by the Department of Economics and Statistics, Government of Tamil Nadu, the event marks the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, known as father of Indian statistics. Joint Director of the Statistics, Madurai Region, K. Sankara Velpandian, presided over the function. Officials and college students representing Madurai, Sivagangai, Theni, Pudukkottai and Dindigul took part.This year’s theme, “Unlocking the Power of Administrative Data,” was introduced by Ministry of Statistics and Programme implementation (MOSPI), Government of India during the session. Delivering special addresses, District Revenue Officer Anbazhagan and Professor Dheenadayalan, Head of the Department of Economics, Madura College, highlighted the pivotal role of statistics in national development.Quiz competition and cultural performances were performed.
