Central University of Tamil Nadu Vice-Chancellor M. Krishnan has said that the national sample survey (NSS) results have opened up the higher education avenues for rural students.
Participating in the culmination ceremony of the year-long 75th anniversary of NSS held at NIFTEM-Thanjavur on November 15, Dr. Krishnan said that scientifically collected NSS data, combined with robust statistical methodologies, has significantly contributed to shaping policies that enhanced the participation of rural students in higher education.
He stressed on the importance of data-driven governance in ensuring equitable educational opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, G. Vishnu Raj, Director, National Statistics Office (Field Operation Division), Madurai, said that NSS data had been a cornerstone in poverty eradication, formulation of targeted welfare schemes, and social sector policies.
Further, the digitisation of NSS operations and releasing of district-level granular data on a month-wise basis had made the NSS data more timely, transparent, and policy-relevant than ever before.
