More than one kilogram of suspected MDMA was seized by the police in the district during the ongoing ‘Operation Toofan’, a State-wide anti-narcotics drive till June 30According to official figures, the police recovered 1.056 kg of MDMA during the period. They also seized 24.13 kg of ganja, 334.31 g of brown sugar, 2.15 g of methamphetamine, 33.42 g of hashish oil, and 28 ganja plants.A total of 498 narcotics-related cases were registered and 599 were arrested. Of them, 58 were remanded in judicial custody.The police registered eight cases involving commercial quantities of narcotic drugs and arrested 13 accused. Another 28 cases involving intermediate quantities resulted in the arrest of 21 accused, while 91 cases involving small quantities led to the arrest of 99 accused.As part of the enforcement drive, the police also registered 79 cases under the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) and arrested 78 persons for violations.Officials said ‘Operation Toofan’ will continue with intelligence-led operations and strengthened enforcement to curb drug trafficking.
