JEDDAH — Some of the brightest stars and astronomical phenomena are expected to illuminate the night sky throughout July, with highlights including Vega and Altair, according to the Jeddah Astronomical Society.Led by the orange-red star Arcturus and the Summer Triangle, July will feature some of the season's most prominent stars, offering spectacular views of the Milky Way's luminous band.Jeddah Astronomical Society President Majed Abu Zahra said the constellations Scorpius and Sagittarius will be prominent in the southern sky toward the center of the Milky Way Galaxy. In dark-sky locations, observers will also be able to view interstellar clouds of dust and gas, including the Coal Sack Nebula, which appears as a dark patch among the stars. He added that one of the most notable objects worth observing is the Messier 13 globular cluster in the constellation Hercules, which contains hundreds of thousands of stars and lies more than 25,000 light-years from Earth.Another highlight is Omega Centauri which contains millions of stars and is believed to be the remnant core of a dwarf galaxy that merged with the Milky Way.Abu Zahra noted that July 2026 will be rich in astronomical phenomena, combining planetary movements and conjunctions with spectacular views of the Milky Way and its star clusters.
