A fatal road accident in Romania’s Braila County claimed the lives of a Romanian couple after a trailer detached from a Bulgarian-registered truck and struck their vehicle head-on, authorities and local media reported.

The incident happened at around 7:20 p.m. on National Road 22, in the direction of the municipality of Movila Miresii. The truck, driven by a 58-year-old Bulgarian man, was traveling along the route when its trailer reportedly became uncoupled, crossed into the opposite lane, and collided directly with an oncoming car.

The impact proved catastrophic. The 61-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel, died instantly, while her 66-year-old husband, seated in the front passenger seat, also lost his life at the scene. Romanian outlets reported that the couple had been on their way home when the accident occurred.

Emergency services, including firefighters, ambulance teams, and rescue crews equipped for extrication, were dispatched immediately. Upon arrival, they found the car severely crushed beneath the detached trailer. Medical personnel confirmed both occupants had died on site. The Bulgarian truck driver was not injured and did not require medical treatment.

Witness accounts described the force of the collision as extreme. “There was no way they could survive,” one observer told local media, noting that the vehicle was almost completely destroyed and its roof torn away by the impact.
