Police drones have unveiled a clandestine abattoir in Johannesburg, leading to the detention of six illegal immigrants.

Police surveillance using a drone led to the discovery of an illegal abattoir in Crown Mines, Johannesburg, resulting in the detention of six illegal immigrants. The operation began around 3:00 AM on Tuesday, when the drone, piloted by authorities, detected unusual activity on the property, raising suspicions of illegal activity.

Surveillance footage captured the activity, prompting ground units to investigate and confirm the presence of an illegal slaughterhouse.

Gauteng's Stock Theft and Endangered Species Investigators, along with Crime Scene Management and Criminal Record teams, were called to the scene.

The property owners were expected to be detained for employing illegal immigrants. Authorities are continuing their investigation, guided by initial findings from the joint surveillance operation in Gauteng.
