Passengers travelling in the express train operated from Mangaluru to Chennai Central were stranded at Avadi railway station after the train suffered a technical glitch on Wednesday (July 1, 2026) morning. The passengers were later sent in the suburban trains as the express train could not be operated. A senior official of the Southern Railway said when the express train from Mangaluru approached Avadi station on Wednesday, a main power cable supplying electricity to the air-conditioned coaches located near the diesel tank suddenly snapped. This rendered the train inoperable. Consequently, the express train was brought to an emergency stop at Avadi station. While the technical staff were rushed to the scene the passengers were stranded at the Avadi railway station for more than an hour. With no other immediate alternative trains available the passengers were finally sent in the crowded suburban trains.S. Masilamani, a regular suburban commuter from Avadi, said normally in the morning hours, the suburban trains are already heavily crowded and the technical snag resulted in hundreds of passengers of the Mangaluru train to be accommodated in the suburban trains who faced severe hardships in carrying the heavy luggages. This technical failure caused disruption of mail and express trains bound for the city to be halted at other stations as the main line was occupied by the inoperable express train. As a result, other express trains scheduled to use that route were temporarily diverted to alternative tracks. The incident caused a brief period of commotion at the Avadi railway station.
