Chennai Metro Rail’s train services were disrupted for sometime on Tuesday morning due to a technical glitch.

Around 6.15 a.m., two trains which departed from Wimco Nagar Metro Rail station stopped near OTA Nanganallur and Meenambakkam Metro Rail stations around 7.15 a.m., as the overhead electrical equipment developed a glitch. Sources said, passengers heading to airport were then taken in autorickshaws and share-autorickshaws. The direct train services from Chennai Central to Chennai Airport were temporarily suspended and the train services were stopped between Alandur and Chennai airport from 7.15 a.m. till 7.55 a.m.

Sources said, four mini buses were operated as shuttle services from Alandur to Chennai airport during this period. “Since it was not a peak hour, the impact was less. If it had happened during the office hours, many passengers would have suffered,” a source said.

In a statement, Chennai Metro Rail said: “Train services on the Green Line and Blue Line are experiencing minor delays due to a technical issue. Trains are currently running with slight delays. Efforts are underway to restore normal services at the earliest. We regret the inconvenience caused and appreciate your patience. Further updates will be shared soon.”
