He knows what it takes for a struggling team to become a contender, and now he's hoping to bring that winning formula to the Vancouver Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks are actually at the start of a rebuild. The club has gone through a transition, as they entered the season with a new coach in Manny Malhotra, a new general manager in Ryan Johnson, and franchise icons Daniel and Henrik Sedin as co-presidents of hockey operations.Speaking to NHL, Gallagher stated that while people often credit a team's success to talented players, they overlook another crucial factor, like the team's culture. He believes that culture is the foundation of every successful organization."I think one of the most important things we did that sometimes gets overlooked," Gallagher said Monday. "Yeah, we had good players, but in terms of culture, I think we created a really good culture here, and that comes from your darkest days and having guys that want to be around and are committed to the process, believe in the process,” Gallagher added. He stated, “I think that's really important, in any organization, whether it's sport or anything. It's nothing without culture, and I think first and foremost that will be the focus, and I think that's something that I can help out with, so I'm looking forward to that. Obviously having been through it, I know how important it is, and I have a little bit of experience in that."The NHL players believe the Canucks already have a strong group of young players with plenty of potential, but those players need the right environment and leadership to bring the winning culture to the team. However, he is excited to join the Vancouver Canucks and is looking forward to making meaningful contributions to the team. "I'm really excited to just get around the guys, see what's going on around there. I look around, and they have a ton of talent. They have good youth, and there is going to be excitement, Gallagher said. Earlier, Gallagher signed a $39 million contract with the Montreal Canadiens, with an average annual salary of $6,500,000. In 2026-27, Gallagher will earn a base salary of $4 million, while carrying a cap hit of $6.5 million. As per reports, the Canadiens are now retaining 50 per cent of the remaining year on Gallagher's contract, which carries a US$6.5-million salary-cap hit.As Gallagher leaves Montreal, he has spent six years with the team, appearing in over 911 regular-season games, recording 246 goals and 241 assists while adding 34 points in 79 playoff contests, helping the Canadiens reach the 2021 Stanley Cup Final.
