The COVID-19 pandemic changed a lot of things about how this economy works. Among them was the rise of remote work, which, as Claire Cain Miller reports in the New York Times, has given working parents the flexibility to care for their children while maintaining their career paths. In some cases, remote work made working women change their minds about having children at all. “They said, in no uncertain terms, that this change since the pandemic made it possible for them to have children,” Cain Miller said. More mothers are working now than before the pandemic, and 26% of parents still work remotely for at least part of the week. “Marketplace” host Kristin Schwab spoke with Cain Miller about her reporting on how remote work has changed working parents’ lives.
