POLICE in KwaZulu-Natal have arrested eight people in connection with attacks on businesses, robbery and the assault of police officers amid unrest linked to marches and demonstrations across parts of the province on Tuesday.
In the latest incident, police arrested five suspects following the alleged break-in at container tuck shops in Woody Glen, in the Mpumalanga township of Hammarsdale, during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
According to police, officers responded to reports that a group of people were breaking into container tuck shops on Embuthweni Main Road in Unit 4 of Mpumalanga township. One suspect was arrested inside a tuck shop, while four others were cornered and arrested as they attempted to flee the scene.
The suspects, aged between 14 and 27, are expected to face charges of malicious damage to property and business burglary. Police said they were still being processed and would appear in court soon.
