The seven-member gang that robbed a jeweller’s wife of 180 grams of gold on Monday near Baikampady has abandoned the jeweller’s car in Bantwal taluk.The police said the car was found abandoned in Kalpane under the Bantwal Rural Police Station limits on Tuesday. In a statement, Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy said the gang members had thoroughly searched the car by tearing apart the seat covers. Police teams are investigating the case and are moving in the right direction to trace the accused, he stated.The gang, on Monday, waylaid the car in which Vikas from Sangli in Maharashtra, who runs a jewellery shop in Payyanur, Kerala, was travelling to Payyanur, along with his wife Rupali and their 14-year-old son.The accused pulled Mr. Vikas out of the car and drove the car away. The jeweller’s wife and son were still seated in the car.The accused dropped Ms. Rupali and her son near Kuloor Bridge and drove away with her bag, which contained 180 grams of gold.
