The Mangaluru City police are searching for seven members of a gang that robbed 180 grams of gold from the bag of a jeweller’s wife after abducting her and her son in the early hours of Monday near Baikampady.In a complaint filed at Surathkal police station, Vikas, a native of Sangli in Maharashtra, who runs a jewellery shop in Payyanur, Kerala, said he was driving to Payyanur from Mumbai, where he had gone to attend a wedding. His wife, Rupali, and their 14-year-old son were accompanying him.Around 3 a.m., near Hotel Dwara in Baikampady, the seven-member gang allegedly came in a car and waylaid Mr Vikas’s vehicle. After pulling Mr Vikas out of the car, some of the accused drove away with the vehicle in which his wife and son were seated. The accused dropped Rupali and her son near Kuloor bridge and sped away with her bag, which contained 180 grams of gold. The accused did not touch the gold ornaments Rupali was wearing, Mr Vikas said in the complaint.Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy said a case had been registered at Surathkal police station, and the police are working on clues to trace the accused.
