Thieves allegedly broke open the rear door lock to enter a house in Muchhattu village in Amasebail Police station limits in Udupi district and made away with gold jewellery, and cash, valued at ₹5.15 lakh on January 21 (Wednesday), police said.

In the complaint to the police, the 60-year-old Gulabi Bovi said she and her husband Nagu Bovi work as labourers in the agriculture farm of Govind Kodli. On January 21, both went to work. In the afternoon, Gulabi returned home for lunch and went back to work at 3 p.m. When she returned in the evening, she saw that thieves had entered her house by breaking open the rear door lock. Apart from 80 grams of gold jewellery, the thieves made away with cash worth Rs. 90,000, she said in the complaint.

The Amasebail Police registered the complaint under Sections 333 (1) and 305 of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
