Inspectors from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA expected to find a few illegal reptiles when they knocked on the door of a Durbanville home. Instead, they ended up calling in the army.

Backed by the City of Cape Town Metro Police and the Law Enforcement Animal Control Auxiliary Unit, the welfare team arrived with a court warrant to investigate reports of poorly kept snakes. The routine check took a sharp turn when inspectors stumbled upon two suspected military explosive devices hidden on the property.
The SPCA team quickly secured and cleared the area by following correct protocol before handing over the scene to the state's heavy reinforcements.
