Military explosive devices discovered on-site during a routine Cape of Good Hope SPCA welfare inspection.
Inspectors from the Cape of Good Hope SPCA arrived at a Durbanville home with a court warrant to investigate reports of illegal reptiles.
However, their routine inspection took an unexpected turn when they discovered military explosives on the property, prompting them to call in the army for assistance.
Backed by the City of Cape Town Metro Police and the Law Enforcement Animal Control Auxiliary Unit, the welfare team arrived with a court warrant to investigate reports of poorly kept snakes. The routine check took a sharp turn when inspectors stumbled upon two suspected military explosive devices hidden on the property.
The SPCA team quickly secured and cleared the area by following correct protocol before handing over the scene to the state's heavy reinforcements.
