Global human rights organisation, the Amnesty International has condemned the continued prosecution of human rights activist, Omoyele Sowore, describing the charges against him as unfounded and calling on the Nigerian authorities to immediately discontinue the case.
The Amnesty International spoke on Tuesday as security personnel barricaded the premises of the Federal High Court in Abuja ahead of Sowore's trial, a development that has raised concerns over intimidation and shrinking civic space in Nigeria.
In a statement, Amnesty International expressed solidarity with Sowore and criticised the deployment of security operatives around the court.
"Again today heavily armed security personnel have barricaded Federal High Court Abuja as Sowore goes on trial. Amnesty International stands in solidarity with Sowore," the organisation said.
