In Odesa, students from the K. D. Ushynsky South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, together with specialists from the Institute of Archaeology of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, have resumed archaeological excavations on Primorsky Boulevard.

Professor Andriy Krasnozhon, rector of the K. D. Ushynsky South Ukrainian National Pedagogical University, spoke about this in a comment to Ukrinform.

“We are conducting research with the Institute of Archaeology for the same purpose as in all previous seasons. We are interested in determining the orientation of the archaeological site on Prymorsky Boulevard. Specifically, we are focusing on the area near Duk, where there are plots that have never been built upon. Therefore, there is a good chance of uncovering an intact cultural stratum dating back to the ancient, medieval, and Ottoman periods. “We simply plan to find a cultural layer. But what form it will take is practically impossible to predict,” said Krasnozhon.

The professor noted that the direction of the excavation corresponds to the location of one of the towers of the Khadzhibey Castle, an attached battery of which was discovered by the expedition in the summer of 2025.
